Sector3 – XBRL in the 3rd Dimension wins 2013 XBRL Challenge

Congratulations to Sector3 for being awarded first place in 2013 XBRL Challenge at yesterday’s annual XBRL and Financial Analysis Conference, NYC, (hosted by NYSSA, XBRL US and Baruch College).

Here is a link to Sector3′s write up on XBRL.US site.

Here is a link to view and listen to the conference.

Regardless of what Grumpy Cat thinks, it is very reassuring to know that innovative ideas using XBRL are constantly being developed. Movement forward on products that consume XBRL is EXACTLY what we need.

Have a great day.

A quick Twitter refresh for investor relations

Part One:

As we discussed on our webcast two weeks ago, the Wells Notice the SEC “offered” to Netflix has certainly made investor relations departments’ (and their corporate counsel sitting in the neighboring office) strategically rethink social media as a shareholder communications vehicle.

marketpulse

This seems like a fine opportunity to have a nuts-and-bolts refresh on how IR can get involved with social media, specifically Twitter and StockTwits. Yes, they are different.

First, let’s see if people are talking about your company in StockTwits. Have you done that before?

  1. Go to Yahoo! Finance > http://finance.yahoo.com/
  2. Search your ticker
  3. Click on “Market Pulse.”

At this point (image below), you’ll see all the discussions about your stock currently on StockTwits. Your company is filtered by your “cashtag” – aka $TICK. Like a #hashtag, the dollar sign is a search text identifier. It says “this is a stock ticker and this tweet is about the company referred to.”

Now, perform this same exercise from a Twitter account, except search with your cashtagged ticker. If you don’t have an account, go ask PR or marketing. They’ll have one.

What do you see? Are there many “tweets?”  What are the dates? Who is tweeting? What are they saying?

marketpulse2

That’s it for now, tactically speaking. We are not going to discuss whether you should be on Twiiter. There’s no missing the boat or social media bandwagons to hop on here today. The strategy part is up to the IRO.

I did mention that StockTwits and Twitter are different. Keep this is mind as you review your cashtag streams.

Think of StockTwits as a monitored sub-culture of stock-nerds from Twitter. Why many believe this is better is 1.) members on StockTwits have identified themselves as “market participants” and 2.) StockTwits automatically filters out pennystocks from the discussion stream. This creates an environment that is pump-and-dump free and assures all people are “real.”  Twitter is wide open and fraught with faux investor accounts. However, if you are going to review your cashtag chatter, both need to be viewed.

At this point, it is time to insert a commercial message.  Our IR websites, PR websites solutions and news distribution are all integrated with StockTwits and Twitter. We also have advanced social media monitoring tools and I make a mean macaroni and cheese from scratch.

Have a great day.

If you (can’t) make it here, you’ll make it anywhere (free, via the XBRL Challenge webcast)

nyc.

There’s a full house booked for the  annual XBRL and Financial Analysis Conference, NYC, (hosted by NYSSA, XBRL US and Baruch College).  A great assembly of some of the best, passionate thinkers in XBRL.

We know that not everyone can make the trek in Manhattan to join this conference in person, so we are pleased to announce a live webcast will be broadcast.

When:  Wednesday, March 27, 2013 from 3:00 to 6:15 pm ET

Have a great day.

Infographic & question #17: Where do you regularly view SEC files?

Wow. I think we have found the epicenter of content – tried and true SEC files. 87% of investors read SEC files. In the eyes of shareholders, regulatory compliance must stamp these documents as absolute. Can you leverage this content’s popularity?

SEC files are viewed evenly at a number of locations. I suggest work to “market” that the SEC files are available on your investor relations website.  Use the draw of this coveted historical content to drive investors to your future (vision) messaging.

IR Awards honor Mary Beth Kissane with Lifetime Achievement in investor relations, corporations rewarded for best practices

One again, IR Magazine’s annual IR Awards brought together hundreds of investor relations professionals to a black tie event to honor our own. Thursday’s night’s gala was hosted Ali Velshi, chief business correspondent of CNN.

As you’ll see in the photos below, good will was abundant. Special congratulations to Mary Beth Kissane, Principal at Walek & Associates, for receiving the Lifetime Achievement award. How can you not honor someone who demonstrates great transparency and access by bringing her Mom! (photo number two below)

Speaking of photos, too many faces to label with captions. If you would like a high-res copy, shoot me an email: Bradley.smith@prnewswire.com.  Clicking on an image will enlarge it.

PR Newswire and Vintage Filings are proud to support the people and companies that champion the mission of investor relations. We like to think of ourselves as part of that group.
